# DefPay

> DefPay is a payment gateway for businesses in India. Merchants accept UPI payments from any UPI app (QR code or one-tap intent checkout), send payouts to any Indian bank account by API, and track every payment and payout in one dashboard. Accounts are opened online and every merchant is verified against KYC documents before going live.

## What DefPay offers

- **UPI collections**: hosted, mobile-first checkout; dynamic QR codes and intent links that open the customer's UPI app; automatic status updates.
- **Payouts**: send money to any bank account in India by API or from the dashboard (vendor payments, refunds, settlements), with status tracking for every transfer and balance/limit controls.
- **Smart routing**: spread payment traffic across multiple processing partners with rules, per-provider limits and automatic fallback on timeouts.
- **Reports & reconciliation**: collections and payout ledgers with filters and downloadable statements.
- **Webhooks & callbacks**: pay-in and payout events sent to the merchant's server with automatic retries; optional redirect after payment.
- **Risk shield**: blocklists for bank accounts and mobile numbers stop risky payouts and payments.

## Who can use it

Individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, LLPs, private and public limited companies, trusts and NGOs operating in India.

## How to open an account

1. Apply online at https://defpay.online/get-started with business details and KYC documents: PAN card, Aadhaar card and a cancelled cheque or recent bank statement (GST certificate and business registration proof optional). PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB each. It takes about 10 minutes.
2. The DefPay team reviews every application by hand.
3. Once approved, the merchant login is emailed to the applicant. The merchant then generates API keys in the merchant dashboard (https://merchant.defpay.online) and starts collecting.

## Security

- All traffic over HTTPS; sensitive API payloads can additionally be AES-encrypted.
- API tokens only work from the merchant's registered domain and allowed server IPs.
- Merchants and the operations team sign in on separate portals with rate-limited logins.
- KYC documents are stored privately and seen only by the verification team.

## Developers

- REST API with JSON. Create a payment with `POST /api/payments/initiate`, check it with `GET /api/payments/status`, send payouts with `POST /api/payout/initiate`.
